We are all wonderful, beautiful wrecks. That’s what connects us–that we’re all broken, all beautifully imperfect – Emilio Estevez
How many times do we put off doing something because we believe we’re not ready, we’re not perfect?
How long are we going to delay living our lives because we’ve got a back log of excuses.
How many times are we aware of hearing ourselves say ‘should, must, ought, have to’?
What does your list of excuses look like? I know mine inside out!
How does your list go? Does it go something like this?
- When the children have left home, that’s when things will change.
- When I’ve lost weight, I can’t possibly do anything until then.
- When I’ve got back into shape, I really must get to the gym
- After the summer holidays are over and once the children are back at school, college…
- When I’m feeling less tired, if I could only get better sleep.
- When I’m feeling less stressed…….yeah right!
- In a few more months, because then ‘things’ might have calmed down a bit.
- When I’ve got more money, I just need to get this other contract in.
- When the mortgage is paid off…….don’t hold your breath on that one.
You do know don’t you that unless you decide to act today, now, right at this moment then the list of excuses will simply grow.
The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change – Carl R. Rogers
I was inspired to write this post following a chance encounter on Twitter with @BelindaSCre8ive, a dynamic songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. She was writing about weight GAIN adverts of yesteryear and I fell in love with her words and share them here with you.
I could go on to write the typical post that we would all expect here about media, gender roles and how so many times we succumb to the thin=beautiful myth.
Today, instead, I just want to give a nod to all of us who are too short, too tall, too fat, too thin, too light and too dark. To each of us who are too eccentric, too serious, too free-spirited, too conservative, too energetic and plain ol’ too tired, here’s to us. Here’s to the perfect and imperfect, the beautifuls, the freaks, the I-don’t-knows and the I’m-just-trying-to-figure-it-out’s.
Pull up your chair, and welcome to my table.
To our adventure,
Belinda
So here’s to us all in all our imperfection, please don’t delay living the life you want to live……no more excuses!

I am crazy flattered! You are simply awesome. I knew it immediately when I saw your haircut.
Big Love,
Belinda
Bless you Belinda! Thank you for the words in your blog that inspired me to write this blog.
So much in my life would never have happened if I’d waited to be ‘perfect’.
It reminds me of the Steve Jobs’ quote ‘Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules…’ I’m very fond of this one too!
